Professor Susan Athey presented the fourth of the CReMic Sir Richard Stone Annual Lectures in The Bateman Auditorium, Gonville and Caius College, between 5:00-6:30pm, 10th May 2012
Susan is Professor of Economics at Harvard University and Chief Economist at Microsoft Corporation. Her main current research areas cover marketplace design, auction theory and the statistical analysis of auction data. Particular recent work has concerned theoretical and empirical studies of internet search, online advertising and the news media. Earlier research included mathematical methods and tools for auctions, industrial organization, econometric identification and organizational design.
Susan is a recipient of the John Bates Clark Medal awarded by the American Economic Association every other year to "that American economist under the age of forty who is adjudged to have made the most significant contribution to economic thought and knowledge." She is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Susan was a Sloan Foundation Research Fellow during 2000-2002. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the American Economic Association and of the Council of the Econometric Society. Susan has presented numerous public lectures including the 2008 Royal Economic Society Frank Hahn Lecture, the 2007 Schultz Lecture, University of Chicago, and the 2007 Toulouse Lectures in Economics. She has filled various editorial roles including those of Co-Editor of American Economic Journals: Microeconomics, a Foreign Editor of Review of Economic Studies and as an Associate Editor of American Economic Review and the RAND Journal of Economics. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for Econometrica, Theoretical Economics and Quarterly Journal of Economics. Susan has published extensively in the leading international journals Econometrica, American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics and Review of Economic Studies.
