Information for Delegates

INFORMATION FOR DELEGATES
Named after Henry Sidgwick, the Sidgwick Site is the focus for the teaching of arts and humanities and many of the social sciences in the University. In addition to the Faculty of Economics and Politics and the Department of Applied Economics it is home to the Faculties of History, Law, English and Modern Languages as well as the University’s Museum of Classical Archaeology. Henry Sidgwick was a philosopher and university administrator. He was a staunch supporter of education for women and arranged a course for a small group of women in 1871. This community quickly grew to become Newnham College in 1875, taking its name from a local village. Newnham College remains a women’s college and stands on the opposite side of Sidgwick Avenue from the University’s Sidgwick Site.
