James Meade 1907 - 1995

James Edward Meade CB, FBA was a British economist and winner of the 1977 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with the Swedish economist Bertil Ohlin for their "pathbreaking contribution to the theory of international trade and international capital movements.

Professor Ulrike Malmendier

Professor Ulrike Malmendier presented the third James Meade Lecture

Title: The Longterm Effects of Crisis Experiences – Evidence on CEO Stress, Aging, and Death

Ulrike Malmendier is the Cora Jane Flood Professor of Finance at the Haas School of Business and Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, University of California at Berkeley.

Professor Malmender received her PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University, and her PhD in Law (summa cum laude) from the University of Bonn. She also is a research associate at NBER, a faculty research fellow at IZA, a CESifo affiliate, and a CEPR research affiliate. She has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Financial Intermediation, and Economic Journal.

Professor Malmendier's research interests: corporate finance, behavioral economics/behavioral finance, economics of organizations, contract theory, law and economics, law and finance. Her research is published in leading journals including American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Finance and Journal of Economic Literature, She has earned numerous awards including Fischer Black Prize by the American Finance Association.

The Lecture took place in Yusuf Hamied Theatre, Christ's College, on Wednesday 21 February 2024, from 5.30pm-7.00pm.
