Research Assistant –
Energy Economics, Technology, and Policy

The Faculty wishes to appoint a full time Research Assistant, to begin work on 1 October 2010 or soon after to support research projects on energy economics, regulation, technology, and policy conducted at the ESRC Electricity Policy Research Group (EPRG). The Research Assistant would be working on the EPRG’s EPSRC funded Flexnet project on Customers, Citizens and Loads.
Examples of current projects to which the Research Assistant might contribute are:
- A case study of the energy projects of local councils.
- Analysis of smart meter data.
- Analysis of customer survey data.
- Studies of business models for energy services.
The work will require literature search and review, data collection, and good analytical skills. A good knowledge of econometrics would be an advantage. In addition, good writing skills and attention to detail are important for project tasks. The candidate should be able to work independently.
Applicants will be expected to have a first class undergraduate degree and a distinction in their masters in Economics or a relevant technical subject and to be familiar with Word, PowerPoint, spreadsheet, and web resources. Ability in econometrics and some experience of project management and consulting are desirable. The position is particularly suitable for candidates considering continuation to a PhD qualification following the term of appointment.
This is a fixed-term appointment for 1 year on the University’s salary scale for Research Assistants.The salary will be at grade 5 on the on the University scale, starting at £23,566 per annum.
