Economic & Social Research Council Studentships (ESRC)

Applicants who wish to be considered for an ESRC award do not need to complete an ESRC application form unless the Faculty of Economics contacts them.  Please indicate on the Graduate Application form (GRADSAF) if you wish to be considered for Research Council funding.

The Faculty is allocated a number of ESRC quota studentships each year.  UK and EU students are eligible to receive ESRC quota studentships (see ESRC Guidance Notes for Applicants for eligibility details).

These studentships can be awarded either to students admitted to MPhil Economic Research or to students admitted directly to the PhD (CPGS) after having completed a suitable Master’s course.  In the former case, the studentships cover both the MPhil year and three further years working on the PhD (a 1+3 award). In the latter case, the studentships cover three years of work on the PhD (a +3 award).

The Faculty of Economics will consider all eligible applicants and will allocate its quota studentships to the strongest candidates. Successful candidates will be contacted by the Faculty of Economics andasked to complete a quota nomination form.

For further information about ESRC studentships, see the University Graduate Studies Prospectus and the ESRC Society Today pages.

Gates Cambridge Trust

The Faculty of Economics expects to be asked to help rank and recommend students for interview.  Students from the USA who wish to be considered for a Gates Scholarship must submit their application form (GRADSAF) to the Faculty of Economics by 15 October.  For applicants from other countries the interviews and deadlines are later.
