Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence

Professor Richard Smith

Following the Bean Independent Review of UK Economic Statistics, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently announced that the National Institute of Economic and Social Research in collaboration with a consortium of leading economic institutions including the University of Cambridge will form the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE).

Professor Richard Smith is ESCoE Academic Co-Director and will oversee the research programme of ESCoE. Professor Andrew Harvey is academic lead of the research project "Measuring GDP at Different Publication Horizons". Professors Partha Dasgupta and Hashem Pesaran are members of the Panel of Academic Experts which will provide general support for ECSoE.

ESCoE will be a dedicated academic centre of expertise offering capacity for fundamental methodological and conceptual work on UK economic statistics. ESCoE will also provide a focal point for discussion around official statistics to feed into the development and improvement of ONS economic statistics and data processing methodologies.
