Professor Oliver Linton, the Chair of the Faculty of Economics addressed the packed Stone Room on the top floor of the Faculty, and gave them a very warm welcome to the Michaelmas Term, as all members started an exciting new academic year.

Professor Linton is the Professor of Political Economy at Cambridge University and a Fellow of Trinity College. He explained he had recently become chair of the faculty a little earlier than planned, but was happy to be helping lead this thriving institution. He particularly wanted to welcome all new staff and students this term.

In the Stone Room were twenty one new PhD students.

New staff were also welcomed, including Rebecca Stamford who joined the Faculty as the new Senior Finance Coordinator. Rebecca has worked in the University for several years and comes to us from the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy where she was the Finance Coordinator.

Jane Stevens who has joined the Undergraduate Administration team on a Temporary Contract to cover a vacancy, and Rebecca Selwyn who stepped up to cover the vacancy over the Summer and who now returns to her General Administrator role.

The event was held in the Stone Room, which is named after renown economist and Nobel Prize winner Richard Stone. He was an undergraduate at Cambridge University, studying economics, an interest sparked by the ongoing great depression. In 1945, he was chosen to be the first director of the newly established Department of Applied Economics in Cambridge.
