Faculty of Economics

Monday, 4 September, 2023

Dr Flavio Toxvaerd from the Faculty of Economics, a Fellow of Clare College and an Affiliated Researcher at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, University of Cambridge has been awarded a top prize by the European Economic Association, winning the 2023 EEA Award for Exceptional Teaching in the Senior Category.

Dr Toxvaerd says; "It’s wonderful news and a real honour to receive this recognition for my teaching. When I was a student, one lecturer was so enthusiastic about economics that she inspired me to devote my professional life to research and teaching. It would be wonderful if I could likewise inspire students in my classroom."

The contributions that he has made to economics education at Cambridge are numerous. He has initiated and completed a thorough reform of the teaching of industrial organisation, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. His reforms have been transformational, with both courses now the most popular optional course across the Faculty’s different programs by some margin.

The European Economic Association (EEA) exists to recognise and celebrate commitment to promote and achieve an outstanding learning experience that enables students to contribute positively to communities and societies around them. Every year it invites applications from all colleagues who can demonstrate excellence in education.
