Emerirus Professor Geoffrey Harcourt, was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in General Division (AC), in the Queen's Birthday Honours. An AC is the highest order of the Orders of Australia.

Professor Partha Dasgupta was recently inducted as Fellow of the (American) Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. Unfortunately Prof. Dasgupta was unable to attend the ceremony, but his acceptance letter was read at the occasion by the current President, Laura Taylor.

From 1975 to 1981, Oliver Hart was an Assistant Lecturer and then Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and a Fellow of Churchill College. Each year the International Finance and Banking Society Conference chooses the best paper drawn from the papers presented at the IFABS 2016 Barcelona Conference and awards the IFABS Best Research Paper Award. The Faculty is pleased to announce that Jonathan Smith was awarded the IFABS Best Ph.D. Paper Award.

The prize committee in particular highlights Dasgupta’s pioneering work in establishing new paradigms at the nexus of society and sustainable development, and his continued commitment to problems of population and poverty, loss of biodiversity, and conservation in its announcement.
